Interesting- Gingivitis gives American woman a British accent (video)

Twist: After dental surgery an American woman dropped her native accent for a British one

Karen Butler, a mother of five from Toledo, Oregon, underwent oral surgery for severe gingivitis but when we she woke from the aesthetic discovered she'd dropped her old voice for a new one. The 56-year-old had never travelled out of America - yet, bizarrely, she started talking in a very odd English accent. Initially her family thought it was just the swelling that caused the sudden change, but nearly two years on Mrs Butler is still chatting away like a true foreigner. At first doctors were stuck as to what the cause was, but eventually diagnosed her as having foreign accent syndrome (FAC) - an extremely rare condition that affects less then 100 people worldwide. What makes Mrs Butlers case so intriguing is that FAC most often occurs after people have suffered a head injury, however scans conducted revealed she was functioning normally and wasn't faking the accent.

How-Aussie military loses X-Files: Report

CANBERRA - Australia’s military has lost its X-Files, detailing sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects, or UFOs, across the country, a newspaper report said on Tuesday. After a two-month search in response to a newspaper Freedom of Information (FOI) request, which forces government officials to release documents of public interest, Australia’s Department of Defence had been unable to locate the files, the Sydney Morning Herald said.“The files could not be located and Headquarters Air Command formally advised that this file is deemed lost,” the department’s FOI assistant director, Natalie Carpenter, told the paper. Defence officials could not be contacted by Reuters.
The only file Defence had been able to locate was a folder called: “Report on UFOs/Strange Occurrences and Phenomena in Woomera,” a military weapons testing range in the centre of Australia’s vast outback, Carpenter said. All other files had been lost or destroyed, which the Herald said could fuel conspiracy theories about their disappearance. The single remaining file detailed a sketchy series of sightings from around the country and overseas, including people living in towns near Woomera, in South Australia state.

What-Men charged after mistake leads to marijuana stash

COVINGTON, Ky. — Authorities say a northern Kentucky condo owner who opened the wrong garage door by mistake found a drug stash that put two of his neighbors behind bars. Benjamin Bingham and Nicholas Mann entered not guilty pleas Monday in Kenton Circuit Court to conspiracy to traffic in marijuana. Police said their neighbor, Mike Finke, had just purchased a condo in the complex and went to clean out the unit's garage. When the key jammed and the lock pulled out of the wall, Finke opened the door and found two duffel bags and a suitcase containing 48 pounds of marijuana, according to The Kentucky Enquirer, which cited police reports.
After Finke called police, he realized he was in the wrong garage.
