Three girls trying to raise money to go to a waterpark thought that a lemonade stand would do the trick. But then they met the long arm of the law — their local police chief. The girls had started up their stand in Midway, Ga., when Police Chief Kelly Morningstar and a deputy drove by."They told us to shut it down," 10-year-old Skylar Roberts was quoted as saying by The Coastal Source news website."It’s kind of crazy that we couldn’t sell lemonade," added 14-year-old Casity Dixon. "It was fun, but we had to listen to the cops and shut it down." Morningstar defended his action and received the support of Midway's mayor. "We had told them, 'We understand you guys are young, but still, you’re breaking the law, and we can’t let you do it anymore,'" Morningstar said. "The law is the law, and we have to be consistent with how we enforce the laws."
Update-Man indicted in semen-tainted yogurt case
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A New Mexico man was indicted after police said he was linked through DNA samples to semen-tainted yogurt samples handed out at a grocery store. Anthony Garcia, 32, appeared in court Thursday after being indicted the day before on charges of adulterating food and making false statements to federal investigators.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth Gonzales described the conduct alleged in the indictment as outrageous."No one should have to endure this type of experience simply because she or he accepts a food sample while shopping for groceries," Gonzales said.Garcia, in shackles, did not enter a plea to the two counts. His public defender, John Van Butcher, was not available for comment after business hours Thursday.The judge ordered Garcia to remain in custody pending a detention hearing Friday.Garcia is accused in the three-page indictment of handing out tainted yogurt samples at a Sunflower Market in Albuquerque in January
Bad-Bus stop moved due to homeless woman's stench
Officials in Honolulu, Hawaii, decided to relocate a bus stop due to the stench of a homeless woman who has lived in a bus shelter for at least seven months. Bus drivers said the elderly woman stinks so bad her odour travels into the buses when they stop outside the concrete shelter, KITV 4 News reports. "We were getting quite a few complaints from bus riders about her smell," transportation director Wayne Yoshioka told the news station. Due to complaints, the city temporarily relocated the bus stop about 20 metres away. Yoshioka said it's legal for squatters to sleep in bus shelters

A Winnipeg woman has been sentenced to one year in jail after a bar dance contest sparked a drunken melee in which another woman suffer a serious slash wound to her wrist.Tiffany Willis, 21, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated assault."This type of behavior cannot be tolerated," said Crown attorney Mitchell Lavitt. "An insult to somebody's dancing should not end up in fisticuffs."The incident occurred as Willis was celebrating her 20th birthday at MyBar on Regent Avenue in July 2009.Court heard another woman lashed out at one of Willis's male friends after her performance in a "booty shake" contest earned a round of boos and cat-calls.Willis was about to hit the woman with a thick plastic drinking cup when a female security staffer came between them, landing in the line of fire. Willis broke the cup over the woman's arm, slicing a deep gash in her wrist area."There was quite a large amount of bleeding," Lavitt said.
