New Way-Winnipegger tweets marriage proposal

It was the proposal heard round the world. Or it was expected to be, according to Mike Duerksen’s plan. Duerksen arranged a very special day for his love partner Friday — culminating in a proposal for marriage, which she accepted — and he invited the Twitterverse along for the ride. Duerksen announced his intentions late Thursday night on Twitter. “The plan is very simple,” tweeted

Duerksen, who handles PR duties at Siloam Mission. “Over the next 12 hours I’ll be taking her on eight different dates to eight different places. Each location has a story and a special meaning behind it.” Duerksen identified the woman only as J.  The couple shared their first date Friday morning at Stella’s restaurant. Their final date was at a bonfire in the backyard of his parents’ home. Duerksen had planned to pop the question in the park where he first asked J out, but rain forced a change of plans. Duerksen contacted the Winnipeg Sun during a bathroom break at date No. 4, the St. Andrews locks. “We’re doing a bit of a picnic,” he said in a voice mail message. “Every Sunday when the weather is nice we drive out here.”

Why-Ford hasn't the appetite for Lettuce Ladies

TORONTO - The Lettuce Ladies tossed themselves into Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s weigh-in Monday. Just as Ford stepped on the scale outside his office for his weekly Cut the Waist challenge weigh-in, the lettuce bikini-clad PETA protesters climbed over the velvet rope and tried to present the mayor with a basket of vegan treats. Ford ignored the nearly naked activists as he answered a few questions on his weight-loss battle. George Christopoulos, Ford’s secretary, tried to act as a human barrier between Ford and the vegans. The mayor weighed in at 312 lbs., up from 311 lbs. two weeks ago. “It’s a challenge,” Ford said on his fight to cut his own waist.

Asked if the lettuce ladies would sway him to adopt a vegan diet, Ford gave a blunt “no.”
As Ford went back in his office, the ladies tried to get someone to accept the basket of several vegan products including tofurky. Christopoulos accepted the food and thanked the women.
The Lettuce Ladies - whose lettuce swimwear was a mix of collard leaves - then climbed on Ford’s scale and posed for pictures. A few minutes after the mayoral weigh-in, Councillor Doug Ford stepped on the scale. He weighed in at 249 pounds. Ford took some time to talk to the protesters. “I’ve been waiting to meet the lettuce ladies,” he said. The Etobicoke councillor listened to the protesters and their recommendations on vegan restaurants in Toronto.

What a new idea-Where you can find organic, vegan sex toys

A Berlin sex shop has taken clear-conscience consumerism to an intimate new high, with organic, vegan sex aids. "Other Nature" a women-orientated eco-friendly sex shop offers organic lubricants, silicon vibrators, and whips recycled from old bike tyres as an alternative to mainstream sex shop wares.Their manifesto is a brave one – to bring customers away from big name sex shops, which they believe sell poor quality, potentially hazardous sex toys.

They say fun, healthy sex can be environmentally responsible. A wide range of dildos, hand selected in every for colour and size are set out across the counter and they all have one thing in common – nothing was created using animal products, nor was any ingredient tested on animals.
Because, unlike organic foods, there is no official framework for assessing intimate toys, the women check personally that everything they sell passes strict guidelines.
"We are a sex shop, only we do it better," Anne Bonnie Schindler, one of the shop's co-managers, said. "We contacted each of the manufacturers and asked where the materials came from, where these objects were produced and if animal substances were used," she explained.
And next to a display of tubes of lubricants, a small sign explains that they are glycerine-free and contain no parabens or allergens. In the back there is a reading room, and shelves of independent, niche erotic literature. In the evenings, the owners offer workshops on how to make your own sex toys. "Our customers are of all ages and contrary to what we expected, they’re not just women," Schindler, 31 and an experienced sex shop employee said.

Crazy-Woman wants 'too much sex' - man calls cops

A desperate man in Munich fled onto a balcony and called police for protection after his insatiable companion on a one-night stand refused to let him leave her flat, police said on
The 43-year-old man had met a woman four years his senior in a bar in the southern German city on Monday and she took him back to her apartment for sex, a police spokesman said in a statement. There they had sexual intercourse several times," the spokesman said.
"When the 47-year-old wanted even more, her partner said no. “The man then tried to leave the apartment but the woman prevented him from escaping and demanded he have sex with her again. "Because the 43-year-old saw no other alternative, he complied with the woman's wishes another few times so he could finally leave the apartment," the spokesman said.
"But when she continued to refuse and demanded even more sex from him, he fled to the balcony and alerted the police." The woman "then tried to talk the dispatched officers into similar activity but was unsuccessful”. She is now facing possible charges of sexual assault and illegal restraint.

Surprise- Alligator shows up at Louisiana motel

NEW ORLEANS - A six-foot alligator which showed up at the front door of a Baton Rouge-area motel on Wednesday might have departed without incident had it not been for an overly helpful guest, who later checked out of the motel with puncture wounds. A housekeeper at the Super 8 Motel just off Interstate 10 in Port Allen, Louisiana, spotted the gator as it crossed the driveway toward the motel at about She called a maintenance worker, who called the hotel manager to come take a look. “He came up right by our front door to the lobby,” Assistant Manager Tiffany Dunnam said. “He was just hanging out there.” Dunnam said guests were more interested than frightened as they gathered around. “If it had been a 10- or 11-foot gator, it might have been a different story,” she said. A front-desk clerk called the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office and the animal control authorities, but before help arrived a motel guest from Mississippi decided to take matters into his own hands. “He said he had experience with gators and would try to immobilize it,” Dunnam said. The guest may have exaggerated his expertise.
“The gator snapped at him and caught his arm,” Dunnam said.

Bleeding from stab-like wounds from the alligator’s teeth, the guest drove himself to a nearby hospital, Dunnam said. The guest checked out of the hotel on Thursday morning.
The gator was released Wednesday into a large canal in the northwestern part of West Baton Rouge Parish, said Richard Summers, animal control director for the parish.

How-You can be sexy in a wheelchair

Nearly two years after she was paralyzed in a freak accident at her bachelorette party, Rachelle Chapman looks forward to becoming a mother and continues to show that a woman can be beautiful and confident even in a wheelchair. TODAY has followed the journey of the 26-year-old from Knightdale, N.C., and her husband, Chris, since her accident on May 23, 2010, through their wedding and honeymoon in July 2011. Since their last appearance on TODAY, Rachelle has learned to drive a specially modified van and has experienced standing and walking with the help of specialized machines at a rehabilitation facility called “Project Walk’’ in Carlsbad, Calif.
Confidence on wheels
She aims to write a book about her experiences to inspire others in similar situations and jokingly told Hoda Kotb on Friday that the working title is “Hot, Sexy, and Rollin’ on 24s.’’
“It's not just the story about my life, my injury and us; it's also the story about (how) you can be sexy and you can be pretty in a wheelchair, and you can have confidence,’’ she said. “We're just normal people, and no matter who you are and what situation you're in, you can have confidence.’’
