How-Amateur spoils restoration of Christ painting

A churchgoer in her 80s had the best intentions when she attempted to restore a 19th-century fresco of Jesus at a church in Spain. But her botched efforts have infuriated officials from The Sanctuary of Mercy Church in Zaragoza and has left them scrambling to determine if the 120-year-old artwork can be saved. The elderly woman acted without authorization from anyone, according to the Centre for Borjanos, which had already received a donation from the granddaughter of the artist Elias Garcia Martinez to professionally restore it. Excess moisture in the church over the last 18 months had caused the Ecce Homo to deteriorate.

LOL-Weird Couple Busted After Fight over Sex Partners

AUGUST 21--A Florida couple described as having a “’weird’” relationship was arrested Sunday and charged with domestic battery after a deputy responding to a report of a disturbance at their home found them fighting while intoxicated and naked. According to a Hernando County Sheriff’s Office affidavit, Deputy Cari Smith found Tina Norris, 39, crying and alleging that she found her live-in boyfriend of five years--James Barfield--“having sex with another female in the house.” She also claimed that he “punched her in her mouth for no reason.” Norris was asked several times by the officer to put her clothes on. She refused. The investigator then spoke to Barfield, 56, who was also naked and “extremely intoxicated.” He alleged that they were in a verbal argument because Norris “was found in bed with two other men” and that she “attacked him. “Melissa Fugate, a third person in the house who the report notes was clothed, told the cop she was sleeping “alone” in a spare room when she heard yelling and screaming. She described the couple as “equally aggressive to each other and involved in mutual physical altercation.” Fugate also stated that Norris claimed to have “found James in bed with another woman and James stated that he found (Norris) in bed with two other men” adding that “they had a ‘weird’ relationship.
Deputy Smith notes that the three other “sexual partners…had left prior to law enforcement arrival and their identities were not provided.”

Norris, who had blood on her lip, and Barfield, who had scratches on his neck and lower back, were booked into the Hernando jail where they posed for the above mug shots. They are both scheduled for arraignment in circuit court on September 11. (1 page)
Why-German law firm takes aim at porn pirates

REGENSBURG, Germany, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- A German copyright law firm said it will publish a list of pornography pirates on its Web site at the start of September. The firm, Urmann and Colleagues of Regensburg, said Tuesday it will publish a list of Internet connections used to pirate pornographic materials, starting with connections in police stations and church rectories, The Local.de reported Tuesday. The firm, which represents several pornography sites, said the list will go up on its Web site Sept. 1. The law firm said it will also send out thousands of cease-and-desist orders along with demands for compensation. As legal representative of its clients, the firm U+C warns owners of Internet connections who have violated copyright," the firm told Der Spiegel magazine. "These clients include companies from the pornography industry who believe their copyright has been violated.

Nice-Fifty Shades of Grey spurs trade at adult shops
BLOCKBUSTER Fifty Shades of Grey has set a new sales record, becoming the best-selling book in Australia as publishers scramble to find their own erotic hits. Publisher Random House yesterday announced the controversial book, penned by London mum E.L. James, has overtaken the last of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series in overall sales, with more than 1.28 million ebook and print formats sold.

While the first book in James's saucy trilogy has set a new sales benchmark since Nielsen BookScan Australia began recording figures in 2003, the second and third books Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed are also selling well and have propelled the combined Australian sales for the series to more than 2.7 million copies. Other publishing houses are now jumping on the bandwagon, with Penguin creating a new range of erotic ebooks and Harlequin, Hachette, Simon and Schuster and HarperCollins all producing their own risque reads. "The recent success of E.L. James's Fifty Shades of Grey proves there is a real hunger, right now, for erotic fiction," HarperCollins publishing director Shona Martyn said. ,Perhaps the rise of the e-reader has assisted, offering more discretion for those reading in a public place than a conventional book; or maybe in tough times, we like a little more escapism than usual. The publishing phenomenon set in motion by James is also seeing an increase in trade at local adult shops, where Queenslanders as old as 70 are strolling in clutching copies of Fifty Shades of Grey.
