Why-eBay bans spells and potions

Budding warlocks and sorcerers will have to go elsewhere for their magical supplies. Ebay is banning the sale of "metaphysical goods" such as potions and spells. The Wall Street Journal reports the online shopping and auction giant will stop selling the items, which make up a good chunk of its inventory, starting Thursday. The company has allowed the sales since 1995 and had tens of

thousands of listings in the category. Tabetha Berry, 50, told the newspaper she makes 80% of her income selling psychic readings on the site. "I'm feeling so defeated," she said, adding she's tried selling her services on Craigslist, but people just hit on her. "I guess I could have seen that coming." The company said the metaphysical goods category is more trouble than its worth. Shoppers complain to customer services after they buy spells that fail to bring them wealth, or potions that failed to transform them into magical creatures.

Surprise-Minnesota man dreams of dog, wakes to bear in face

John Steitz was having a nap on a hiking trail in northeastern Minnesota, dreaming about playing with a dog. But when he woke up, it was a bear on top of him. Steitz, 26, had stopped for a break on the Superior Hiking Trail Tuesday when he had the vivid dream about a dog jumping on him, scratching and licking his face, he told local newspaper the Duluth News Tribune. "I opened my eyes and there was a bear on top of me with its face in my face," he said. "I kind of opened my eyes and gave a, 'What-the-expletive?'" The "hefty" black bear backed away when Steitz leaned forward, and slowly moved away as Steitz and his hiking partner banged pans and made noise to scare it off. Neither Steitz nor his friend was injured by the bear.

Nice- Bionic eye brings amazed woman some sight

SYDNEY - A bionic eye has given an Australian woman partial sight and researchers say it is an important step towards eventually helping visually impaired people get around independently. Dianne Ashworth, who has severe vision loss due to the inherited condition retinitis pigmentosa, was fitted with a prototype bionic eye in May at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital. It was switched on a month later. “All of a sudden I could see a little flash ... it was amazing,” she said in a statement. “Every time there was stimulation there was a different shape that appeared in front of my eye.” The bionic eye, designed, built and tested by the Bionic Vision Australia, a consortium of researchers partially funded by the Australian government, is equipped with 24 electrodes with a small wire that extends from the back of the eye to a receptor attached behind the ear. It is inserted into the choroidal space, the space next to the retina within the eye. “The device electrically stimulates the retina,” said Dr Penny Allen, a specialist surgeon who implanted the prototype.

Father Benedict Groeschel, American Friar, Claims Teens Seduce Priests in Some Sex Abuse Cases

In a recent interview with the National Catholic Register, Father Benedict Groeschel, of the conservative Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, said that teens act as seducers in some sexual abuse cases involving priests. It's been close to a decade since an investigation into clergy sex abuse cases by The Boston Globe unearthed a shocking scandal and cover-up that rocked the foundations of the Catholic Church in the U.S. and around the world. Ten years may have passed, but the wounds have yet to fully heal in America, especially in light of the recent Penn State allegations, as well as the trial of Monsignor William Lynn, former secretary for the clergy in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. In light of this, the recent comments by Groeschel seem both puzzling and jarringly out of step with current sentiments.

What-Man calls cops after prostitute takes his money and raises her price

What would you do if you agreed on a price for a prostitute's services, only for her to take your money and raise her price? When that happened to a 45-year-old Ann Arbor man Wednesday night, he decided to call police and report the woman for robbery.Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said police were called at 10:30 p.m. to a home in the 2700 block of Packard Road for a report of a robbery. When investigators arrived, they found the man having a bit of trouble with a 19-year-old

Ohio woman he had contacted online.Bush said the man and the woman had agreed on a price for her services. But when the man gave her the cash, the woman reportedly took the money and informed him that the price had suddenly gone up.Aggrieved, the man took the next step of calling police.“So, she was arrested,” Bush said, shaking her head. The stories the man and the woman told police regarding the night’s events were vastly different, Bush said. The man was not arrested, and it'll be up to Washtenaw County prosecutors to determine charges in the case.
