What a surprise-Suspect attempts getaway in unmarked police cruiser

Surinder Gill said.Police said the suspect did not attempt another escape after he was in the cruiser. By then, the other officers had arrived and the suspect realized he was not getting away, Gill said.Cary Patrick Cleyndert, 29, was arrested.

Why -U.K. strippers face stiff competition in hard times

Pole dancers are slipping in the U.K. Or at least their standards. A study of exotic performers in Britain has found the economic crunch has had an impact on the quality and professionalism of strippers. So much so, like a surgeon who doesn't know how to properly hold a scalpel, many dancers don't even know how to use a stripper pole. It's enough to make British men lose their stiff upper lip. Researchers from the University of Leeds traced a decline in the aesthetics and talents of exotic performers since 2008. The Times reports that older dancers lament the loose standards of today's peelers -- complaining they lack the more subtle abilities to flirt and chat with customers.
As wages have dropped, clubs are often in a position to exploit the women, the researchers determined. Dancers pay clubs to give them a venue to earn tips from patrons, but overall wages have dropped in recent years. The authors of the report, Teela Sanders and Kate Hardy, from the School of Sociology and Social Policy, have warned that "de-skilling" is a threat to the profession, as it fights through tough financial times.

What a big mistake-900 students wrongly told they got into UCLA

Welcome to the Bruin Family -- or not. UCLA is apologizing for mistakenly telling 894 high school seniors that they were admitted to the highly competitive school when they were actually still on the waiting list.
The Los Angeles Times reports that the school sent an email about financial aid awards last weekend to the students. The email included a line congratulating them on being admitted.

When the school found out about the mistake, it sent messages on Monday telling the 894 that they were on the waiting list for admission, The Times reported. The note also included an apology. UCLA spokesman Ricardo Vazquez attributed the mix-up to human error, telling the newspaper: “We realize this is a particularly anxious and stressful time for students and their families as they try to make decisions about college admissions. We sincerely apologize for this mistake that may have led some of them to think they were admitted when they remain on the waiting lists.” Vazquez said updated notices of provisional financial aid were sent Saturday and Sunday to thousands of admitted students, but mistakenly went out to waiting-list students as well. The notice included the line: "Once again congratulations on your admission to UCLA, we hope that this information will assist you in making your decision to join the Bruin Family in the fall.” Kathy Lam, a high school senior from Elk Grove, Calif., was among the applicants who received the “acceptance” notice, only to be told she hadn’t made it in yet.

Bad luck-6-year-old accidentally killed in dad's wood chipper

A 6-year-old Connecticut boy was killed in a tragic accident involving a wood chipper early Tuesday. Jeffrey Bourgeois, 6, was helping his father clear brush in a client's yard in Salem, Conn., when his arm got stuck in the chipper, state police said.
"The youngest child attempted to help his father and when his father's back was turned, he picked a branch up and fed it into the chipper when he was pulled into the chipper," State Police Lt. Paul Vance said. The father owns a tree removal service and brought his three children to the house where he was performing tree work. Police received a 911 call at reporting that reporting a child had been seriously injured in the yard of a private home. The fire chief is a neighbor and was the first to respond. "The family lives right across the street from me.  I saw what we had, and I kept everyone away," said Chief Gene Maiorano.
Officials are investigating the incident, but they said it appears to be a tragic accident.

Why this anger-Blaring Rihanna Album Triggers Domestic Attack

APRIL 11--A Florida woman allegedly bit her daughter when the teenager sought to remove a Rihanna CD that had been blasting in the family’s Vero Beach home, police report. Robyn Harr, 38, was busted last week on a misdemeanor domestic violence charge, according to an arrest affidavit. At

the time of her collar, Harr, pictured at right, “had a very strong odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage emitting from her breath and her words were slurred,” cops noted. Harr’s 17-year-old daughter told officers that her mother was “very intoxicated and has been being nasty all day” and “has been playing loud music in the house and would not turn it down.” The girl added that, “when she went to take the riahanna cd from the player her mom bit her in the leg.”  An officer noted that the teen had a bite mark on her leg that “appeared to be very fresh.”
Harr admitted that, “I bit her,” according to the affidavit. She claimed to have chomped her child after being attacked by the teen. Cops, however, detected no.

Surprise-A child finds hand grenade on Easter egg

A CHILD on an Easter egg hunt organised by a preschool group in an English village stumbled upon an unexpected surprise -- a hand grenade.

The hunt was taking place in a field near the town of Holford, Somerset, today, This Is Somerset reported. The area was cordoned off and the bomb disposal squad destroyed the grenade in a controlled explosion, police said. It also resulted in the closure of a highway for a few of hours.
"We were beginning to count up the eggs at the end of the hunt and I saw a boy of three standing on an object," Stuart Moffatt, who was attending the hunt with his three children, told the Daily Mail."It was brown and about 10cm high. It looked like an Easter egg, but it was a hand grenade.

What a new idea-Canadian trio sore and sorry after naked shopping cart ride through car wash

THREE drunk Canadian men were warned by police and sent home feeling sore and sorry for themselves after attempting to ride through a car wash while naked and sitting in a shopping trolley. The trio of 20-year-olds tried their stunt in Abbotsford - southeast of Vancouver on the US border - about on Tuesday, setting the car wash to a "typhoon" setting, The Vancouver Sun reported. Neighbours phoned police when they heard screams coming from the car wash and officers "arrived to find intoxicated men putting their clothes back on, and realising that the best decisions aren't made while drunk and at a car wash without a car in the middle of the night," Abbotsford police spokesman Ian MacDonald said. Abbotsford Police Department later tweeted: "APD warns that pressure washing yourself will not increase intelligence or sobriety."

Why-Man kept dead dad in living room for months

A British man was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison because he kept the body of his dead father in his home to collect the man's benefits. Christopher Blackburn, 29, of Lancashire, England, pleaded guilty in January to theft and preventing lawful and decent burial of a dead body, police said in a release.Court heard police arrived at Blackburn's home on March 22, 2011, after neighbours called with concerns. When officers entered the home, they found the body of Guy Blackburn, 54, on a bed in the living room.
A post-mortem determined Guy Blackburn had died of natural causes several months earlier, police said.
Media reports said Christopher Blackburn told his daughter her grandpa was just sleeping.
Blackburn admitted to stealing thousands of dollars from his father's bank account, where income support payments continued to be made after his death.

Wow-B.C. reporter who hits posts featured on Leno  (video)

He has been a TV news reporter for more than 20 years, but it only took one second of not paying attention for him to reach an international audience.
CTV reporter Kent Molgat’s painful pole encounter has gone viral, with nearly 180,000 views on YouTube, as of Tuesday night. Molgat was chasing a lawyer leaving a Kelowna courthouse when he collided with the pole and sent his glasses flying. Shortly after, he sent out this tweet, “Ever wanted to see a reporter refusing to take 'no comment' for an answer take a hit to the face?”
Monday night, the video was featured on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, with the veteran host introducing him, “It’s time once again for something we call, your local news ‘watch where you are going’ edition.”

How-School board apologizes for oral sex flyer

SUDBURY, ONT. - Family members are shocked after Grade 7 Catholic school students received oral sex pamphlets meant for 18 year olds.
“My granddaughter is totally not into sex or anything like that. She could not believe that she was handed this in school. And when I saw it — I'm 62 years old — I was upset," said Carmen James-Poulin, the grandmother of a student at Marymount Academy in Sudbury, Ont.
The explicit flyers were distributed Thursday during an open house at the all-girls Catholic school for students in Grades 7 to 12.
The pamphlet includes a guide on how to perform oral sex on men and women, as well as pros and cons to giving or receiving the act.
It was put together by Toronto's Canadian AIDS Treatment Information Exchange (CATIE).
“They had a booth in the gymnasium, so they had to have permission to get in there. They wouldn't have just been able to set up without somebody's permission,” said James-Poulin, grandmother to one of the girls who came home with the sexually explicit pamphlet.

"It's not educational. It's vulgar. It belongs on a porn site."
This is at least the second time the pamphlet has ended up in the wrong hands. In 2010, QMI Agency reported that a science teacher at a Montreal school handed it out to a Grade 8 class. At the time, CATIE official Veronique Destrube said it was designed for 18-year-olds.
Catholic school board officials and an AIDS information organization are at a loss to explain how the oral sex pamphlet ended up in the students' possession.
Jim Pollock, CATIE's director of communications, said they have not held any education sessions in Sudbury for more than a year and there is no record of the school ordering the pamphlets.

MONTREAL — A grieving boyfriend has released the final, romantic text message that his girlfriend typed before she slammed into the back of a transport truck and was killed instantly.
Emy Brochu, 20, died east of Montreal on Jan. 18, prompting lover Mathieu Fortin to post their deadly exchange on Facebook to raise awareness about the dangers of texting behind the wheel.
Fortin says he didn't know his girlfriend was driving when he texted, "I love you Mme Brochu."
Her final text message read, "I love you too and I will try my best to make you happy Mr. Fortin."
The woman's car then collided with the truck around 10:45 a.m. Fortin, unaware of what happened, sent several other texts including one that read, "I would have preferred to hear your beautiful voice, but anyway...we'll talk again this evening before six. Have a good day at school bb, I kiss you all over :)"
After his next text went unanswered at 12:27 p.m., he sent Brochu another message at 1:24 p.m.

Porn star teacher back in class

Students at Florida's Nautilus Middle School can boast to their friends that one of their teachers has acted in movies — albeit with dubious titles such as Mo' Bubble Butt, Humping Iron, and Desperate Husbands.Shawn Loftis acted in and directed a series of gay porn films titled World Of Men.
The substitute math teacher, who was removed from the classroom last year because of his prior work, now says he has been allowed to return to his teaching gig.
A graduate of Florida International University, where he studied international relations with a focus on the Middle East, Loftis was teaching at Nautilus Middle School when the principal discovered his past work on his website.
The principal cited a conduct policy and prevented Loftis from returning.
On Friday, Loftis told a local station the education commission reversed the decision.
Loftis argued he wanted to guide students away from making the same mistakes he made, and that what he did was not illegal.
Aside from his acting and teaching work, Loftis is also a regular contributor to iReport, the site where CNN takes videos, pictures, and dispatches from viewers and turns them into news.

SAd-Toddler shoots, kills himself

A three-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed himself on a family road trip through Tacoma, Wash., police say. The toddler was with his mother and her boyfriend and another child when they stopped at a gas station a little after midnight Wednesday, reports Seattle's KIRO 7 TV.
While both adults were out of the car, police believe he found the boyfriend's pistol on or under a seat and fired. He died in hospital.
TV station KING 5 reported the man doesn't have a concealed-weapons permit.
The other child in the car — believed to be the man's four- or five-year-old daughter — wasn't injured.
