A JEALOUS and controlling husband secretly fed his wife dangerous ­steroids so she would get fat and stay at home to cook for him.Dalwara Singh, 41, ground up high-strength anabolic steroid tablets before slipping them into meals and wine for his wife Jaspreet Singh Gill, a court heard.The powerful drugs caused the 37-year-old mum-of-two to break out in spots and grow hair on her face and back.Singh was caught when the couple’s teenage daughter heard him using a pestle and mortar and his wife found the drugs in a locked cupboard.He admitted administering a poison or noxious substance with intent to injure, aggrieve or annoy. But he escaped prison and was instead given a suspended jail sentence.After hearing her estranged husband had also been given a restraining order preventing him from contacting her, Jaspreet said: “I’m happy; I don’t want him near me. I forgave him for 17 years but won’t do that any more.”Prosecutor Caroline Bray told the court: “She felt controlled by him. Early in the marriage she didn’t enjoy normal freedoms like getting a job, socialising and couldn’t choose what she wore. He accused her of infidelity.

“In 2009 she found work and got out a bit more. That’s when things started to go wrong. He wanted to stop her from going out – he wanted her to be at home to cook for him and look after the children.  (mirror.co.uk)

Other police stations have offered the lure of free TVs to nab suspects, but British police appealed to suspects' thirsty sides, offering free beer. In the ruse, Derbyshire police offered dozens of suspects a free case of beer -- all they had to do was pick it up.

The month-long campaign, dubbed Operation Rocky, nabbed 19 suspects.

"These suspects are people who have managed to evade arrest for some time so we have used different tactics to find them," Chief Insp. Graham McLaughlin said in a statement Friday. "It has been very cost effective as it can take a lot of time and money to track people down." The suspects were wanted for offences ranging from burglary and robbery to sexual assault. (QMI)

Bad-British mom jailed for fatally force-feeding baby

A British mother has been sentenced to three years in prison because her baby girl died after she force-fed her.

London police say the woman forced food into the 10-month-old, named Diamond. The girl was taken to hospital on March 3, 2010, with breathing difficulties. She died at 4:40 a.m. The initial cause of death was inconclusive, but investigators discovered the baby had pneumonia caused by aspiration -- meaning she inhaled food into her lungs.

A 36-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman were charged.

A HIPPOPOTAMUS named Humphrey has mauled to death a South African man who kept him for a pet, Beeld newspaper reported today. The 1200kg hippo bit 40-year-old army major Marius Els, dragged him into the water and killed him, the paper said.The incident happened on Saturday at the Vaal River near Els' farm in the Free State province in central South Africa.

Humphrey, who is about six years old, was rescued as a calf during a flood on the river and had been raised as a pet.

In a video posted online in March, Els feeds Humphrey apples, swims with him and rides on his back.(AAP)

MOBILE, ALA. - The owner of a large southwest Alabama car dealership derided as “Taliban Toyota” by a competitor has been awarded $7.5 million in damages after a jury trial for his slander claim. Iranian-born Shawn Esfahani, owner of Eastern Shore Toyota in Daphne, Alabama, had sought $28 million in compensatory and punitive damages from Bob Tyler Toyota, claiming employees at that Pensacola, Florida-based dealership falsely portrayed him as an Islamist militant to customers.

“The feeling I received in the courtroom for the truth to come out was worth a lot more than any money anybody can give me,” Esfahani told (Reuters).

The Vandalia, OH, man is currently being held in a jail for breaking into a family's home Friday and putting up Christmas decorations while they were out.Quoting police, WHIO-TV reported that an 11-year-old child came home and found a stranger sitting on the couch.He immediately called his mother, Tamara Henderson, who was next door, and she called police.

The TV station said police reports indicated that Trent did have a pocket knife and was most likely on bath salts."The candle was lit on the coffee table, the television was on and very loud, and the candle on the kitchen table was lit," Henderson told WHIO. (QMI)
